Read more Read less. In fact there are a good many things, terms etc that I got to learn from this book, thanks to Banker, I am slightly more educated. Rama is not my favorite historical character, but I loved the flavor of his character in this book. I can understand ‘yojana’ a measure of distancebut a Sanskrit words for ‘naked’ seems a bit superfluous.

Beautiful Ugly and the complementary documentary of the same title are a tribute to his mother, portraying the tragic events of her life. One might wonder how a good story can even be told about a hero like Rama, who is perfect in dharma and meditation, who is invincible, with divine weapons that always hit their mark, etc. Having depicted different aspects of Ramayana in dance and watched them being performed, it just looked like a theme beaten to death. I like my Mythological and Historical Fiction to be detailed and descriptive enough.
I guess it’s just me. This is a great read. The sudden appearance of the revered Sage Vishwamitra. However, what I found annoying was the usage of modern day terms unnecessarily. I read the first 7 books and the series ebbs and flows through the story with battles, strategy and legends I grew up learning about.
A human being, destined for greater glories for the betterment of mankind. I did enjoy this first book of the retelling of the Ramayana and plan to find out more about the original epic! Oh, and another quick note.
