Nonetheless, the drama cannot be compared to Le Ping-Pong, one of the best works of Adamov. The action of the play resembles that of a nightmare: The childish and senseless objective of the young men developing the pinball machine is in a similar way the equivalent of every human ambition.

Adamov wants to discard his former conception of the world and to accept the Marxist view, but remnants of the former can be perceived here and there. He had translated some of his plays, for example The Father and even adapted The Ghost Sonata and The Pelican; for his career, however, A Dream Play was the most important work of the Swedish dramatist on whom he wrote a monograph published in Books by Arthur Adamov.
