This Dutch edition was translated into Spanish inand from Spanish into Englisch ininto French in and afterwards reprinted many times. Exquemelin is ever-informative, and keeps a quite unbiased account of his time with the buccaneers, often separating them as “the buccaneers” but sometimes slipping into “us”. Great pace throughout, but it does get a little dry towards the end as the author succumbs to sickness and simply shares daily journal entries on direction of travel and weather.
